During our trip through Myanmar in 2019, Kathi and I wanted to get as close to the wildlife as possible. Luckily we found Soe Moe Aung, the man who calls himself the first wildlife tour guide in Myanmar who told us he could get us as close as we could get to the largest saltwater crocodiles on the planet! He has previously helped producing a BBC wildlife documentary, so we decided to take our chance to make our own independent documentary with Soe Moe.
Together with Soe Moe, two rangers, the wildlife author Yoshi from Japan and our boat driver, we spent one week in the Mein Ma-hla-Kyun reserve in southern Myanmar on the lookout for crocodiles!
Unfortunately, many conditions were against us during production. We were travelling during dry season so most animals reduce their activities and crocodile sightings are less common. We also did not bring the best equipment with us for the filming process. All the wildlife shots you see in the documentary were shot handheld. The super-tight scheduling meant we had to spend every minute possible on the boat looking for crocodiles, which put a lot of pressure on the whole team.
In the end, it was by far the toughest producing we have had to this point but also a remarkable experience! I am very grateful for the support of the team that kept working together until the very end!
